A digital service from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment is set to launch in 2018 with a live-action Titans TV series and the return of the Young Justice animated series, according to Deadline.
The streaming service is expected to include TV and comics content, although no mention of film is made. Other details on the service are being kept under wraps for now, although Warner Bros. is putting some serious creative firepower on the new project.
Titans, a live-action adaptation of the popular Teen Titans comics and animated series, will headline the service. The series is being produced by Akiva Goldsman, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, and Geoff Johns. Goldsman, Berlanti, and Johns will handle scripting duties.
Goldsman originally developed a Titans series for TNT as far back as 2014. This is expected to be a new take on the young superheroes, focusing on Dick Grayson, Starfire, Raven, and more.
The Teen Titans have appeared in a variety of media from DC Entertainment. The team current appears in the animated Teen Titans Go! and recently starred in the Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated film. A live-action film focusing on Grayson’s Nightwing alter-ego is being developed as part of the DCEU.
It is unknown if the Titans series will have any connection to the DC Extended Universe or Berlanti’s television multiverse on The CW. Berlanti’s DC work on The CW includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, as well as the upcoming Black Lightning.
Young Justice was a well-received animated series that was cancelled after just 2 season on Cartoon Network from 2010-2013. The series was a hit among fans and DC Comics announced a revival this past November. Now, we finally now where it will air.
Season 3 of the series will be titled Young Justice: Outsiders. Like the Titans series, Young Justice focuses on some of the younger characters in the DC Comics stable. Most of the creative team and voice cast is set to return for the new season.
The service will be the second developed by Warner Bros. The first, Boomerang, carries a variety of animated films and TV series and is priced at $4.99 monthly or $39.99 annually.
