With Steppenwolf set to become the main villain in Zack Snyder’s 2017 Justice League film, now is a good time to get to know the character. What is his comic book origin and what powers does he have? We discuss all of that and more on today’s podcast.
Who is Steppenwolf?
Steppenwolf is a villainous New God from Apokolips. He is an uncle to Darkseid and a brother to Queen Heggra. He is often portrayed as a military leader and fighter, often working closely with Parademons.
As a New God, he has superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes. He carries a weapon called the electro-axe with him for use in battle.
Steppenwolf’s first appearance in comics was in New Gods #7 “The Pact” from 1972. He was created by writer and artist Jack Kirby. He has appeared sparingly in comic books since then. Most notably, he played a major role in the invasion of Earth-2 in the New 52.
